Grade 5

Mrs. Barry would like to welcome you to the Fifth Grade.  In Grade 5, each student will be given many opportunities to show their skills, creativity, and to grow academically.  Students will do classwork, homework, reports, and projects that will enhance their learning and stimulate their desire to succeed.

In Religion, students will be concentrating on the sacraments and the role they play in their lives as Catholics  They will begin Math by reviewing  and continue by advancing their knowledge of the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.  The students will also be learning some geometry and a little introductory algebra.  Reading will give each student an opportunity to work on developing their comprehension skills and a chance to show what they have learned in some stimulating Book Reports.  In Science, they will travel from the center of the Earth to the Solar System and what lies beyond.  The students will also have a chance to show their knowledge and creativity with a project or report each quarter.  In Language they will be continuing to work on the parts of speech, sentences, grammar, and punctuation; while developing their writing skills.  Social Studies will be taught by Ms. Sylvain and highlights the nation’s history.

This should be an interesting and exciting time as the Fifth Graders continue to learn and grow as students, and Mrs. Barry is excited about having the opportunity to share this experience with them.
